We had the opportunity to go camping with some friends on Monday night. We thought about some fun places around the ares where we could all go, but decided that sometimes with young kids especially, camping right in the backyard can be even better than a campsite far from home. The Ruder's have the perfect backyard for it, and even put together a fun family home evening activity for all of us. We all ate hot dogs, chips, salad, and of course smores. All of the kids did such a great job being careful around the fire, they got along great. Josh and Nate took them all on a hike out in the woods behind their house. Josh thought that Lincoln would be way too scared to go along, but he had so much fun. The climax of the trek was the spotting of a large bat. I got to sit and talk with Janalyn, I never seem to get enough girl chat time, it was nice.
The Ruder's just recently finished building a clubhouse in their backyard, so that's where Josh and all the boys slept. I slept on their couch with Oliver, and Janalyn and Nate slept in their own beds along with Chloe. Josh was a little sore in the morning, but everyone slept surprisingly well.
This is the worst picture ever of Oliver, but I think it's so funny, he looks like a little animal.

These two have a lot in common, they had fun looking a comics around the campfire, and also listening to The Hardy Boys book on tape together inside.
